how this works
It is simple..
Before we jump into the simple recipe it is important to understand the key ingredients. The answer to how this will work lies in knowing the key players and how their strengths will complement each other.
We have four key players in this approach
elderly

Wealth of real life experience and interesting stories to share
At times feel lonely, have tough time with new technology and gadgets, sometime struggle with small tasks that might be more physical in nature
children

Packed with energy. New technology and gadgets are something they live and breathe.
Lack real life experience. Need to build characteristics like patience, sense of responsibility, satisfaction etc.
parents

Have children that they wish could get time with their grandparents and learn from their experiences and stories.
Have elderly parents who live on their own and they wish they could spend more time with them in person.
our organization

We are a group of like hearted and like minded people in one of the above three categories who think we owe this to both our elderly and children.
Now we know our key players and their strengths. Below are three easy steps explaining who does what to make this initiative a success.
step 1
OUR ORGANIZATION
Reaching out to as many people as possible, explaining the vision and the mission and finding like-minded elderly, parents and children who would like to join hands with us in this journey. We will be the enablers.
step 2
parents
-
Work with their children to find one elderly family living in their neighborhood.
-
Make a visit to the elderly to explain them the vision and the mission specially focusing around how elderly will be helping the children by being part of this mission.
-
Help agree on a day and time based on both elderly and child’s availability for the weekly visit.
step 3
children and elderly
-
Children - Make a quick 30 seconds call daily just to check how the elderly were doing.
-
Children and Elderly - Meet weekly to catch up and spend time together. (Read More >)
-
Children - Share your experience with your parents and write a paragraph about your visit.
-
Look forward to your next visit.

worried about elderly and children safety.
we too have safety as our top watch item.
This project is run by children in the neighborhood for the elderly in their neighborhood.
No unknown persons involved. Elderly would know and be comfortable with the child/volunteer coming to their house. At the same time parents sending their child would know the elderly who their child is helping and be comfortable in sending their child to the elderly house. All our players i.e. elderly, parents and children need to be comfortable to start this support system.
This is a project for the neighborhood by the neighborhood.
